I love this: @walid.azami on two of my favorite subjects: photography and Black formality (which I will add is not just defensive due to white racism — it’s also deeply cultural, and reflective of many African traditions that survived slavery. From @somethingblackmade — Back in the day, many forms of media, like cartoons, advertisements, and movies, often showed black people in a negative light, using harmful stereotypes. These stereotypes didn’t accurately represent the real lives and diversity of black communities. Photographs, however, could offer a different view. Unlike other media, photography had the potential to capture real moments and real people. This allowed photographers to show black individuals in a more genuine and respectful way.
