JUAs a former public school teacher, here is what I would tell parents if I wasn’t afraid to hurt their feelings:
👉🏻 Homework doesn’t help the kids who struggle the most. It usually just frustrates them more.
👉🏻 Standardized tests measure how well kids take tests, not how intelligent they are.
👉🏻 The education system hasn’t meaningfully changed in over 100 years.
👉🏻 Memorizing information isn’t the same as learning how to think.
👉🏻 Good grades don’t guarantee success in life.
👉🏻 Some of the most capable kids don’t thrive in traditional classrooms.
👉🏻 Sitting still for 6–7 hours a day isn’t how most kids learn best.
👉🏻 We teach a lot of content kids will never use… and skip things they will (money, communication, resilience).
👉🏻 School rewards compliance more than curiosity.
👉🏻 Financial literacy should be mandatory.
👉🏻 Many kids will end up in careers that don’t even exist yet.
👉🏻 Confidence and problem-solving matter more than test scores.
👉🏻 The conversations happening at your dinner table matter more than any worksheet.
Just a few observations from inside the classroom.
