THThe "Kubrick stare" usually happens toward the end of Stanley Kubrick's films when the character reaches a point of insanity, but in "A Clockwork Orange," the character (Alex) is already staring down the camera from the first scene.

FUAfter Stanley Kubrick finished A Clockwork Orange, he destroyed all the unused footage. Then he distributed his final cut to theatre’s in the UK but he was afraid the theatre owners would edit the movie. So every week he would check the reels and exchanged them for a clean, inspected copy.
However Kubrick had to withdrew the film from distribution due to its impact on societal behavior. So film became unavailable for public viewing in the UK in 1973. British video stores got so many requests that some put up signs that read, “No, we do not have ‘A Clockwork Orange.’”
The ban lasted until 2000, a year after Stanley Kubrick’s death, when the film was re-released for theatrical and home video distribution.
