THThis is a fantastic demonstration of how science can turn everyday items into a magical spectacle.
First, we start with a bowl of water and add some dish soap, mixing it thoroughly to create a soapy solution. Then, we take a slinky and dip it into the soapy water, raising one end of it. Now comes the fun part - we grab a paper straw, dip it into the soapy water, and blow a bubble inside the slinky, attaching it from the inside. Finally, we pop a soapy film just below where the soap bubble is, and watch in wonder as the bubble spirals upward.

Materials needed:
▫️1 pair of scissors
▫️Your favorite coloring markers
▫️Coloring sheet/book
▫️Old white T-shirt
▫️Plastic wrap
▫️Parchment paper
▫️A hot iron
🔴CAUTION: Be VERY careful with the hot iron. Parents, I advise you to provide assistance to your little one during this part!
The science: The polymers within the plastic wrap are typically some type of thermo plastic (like polyethylene) that when exposed to high temperatures, can be molded. This allows us to press it into the fabric of the T-shirt. Once the polymer cools, it becomes embedded into the fabric material and you have your own heat press design!
You should know this is a temporary design and washing it may cause the polymer to come out of the fabric. Typical heat presses operate under much higher temperatures.

COWho knew learning about H2O could be so exciting?😁💧We transformed the schoolyard at Ida B. Wells Preparatory Elementary School into a water wonderland during WaterPalooza, part of the Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference (@weftec).
From racing raindrops and tracing how water moves through pipes to understanding what not to flush, these young scientists explored the science of water through hands-on experiments and soaked up every drop of knowledge. We love educating and inspiring the next generation of water warriors!

EMEvery time light enters a new medium, it changes direction — this is called refraction.
How much it bends depends on the refractive indices of the two media involved.
In this experiment, light coming from the coloured parts of the flower is refracted twice: first when it passes from the plastic bag into the water, and again when it travels from the water back into the air. As a result, the refracted light no longer reaches our eyes when we look from above the beaker, so the colours appear to disappear.
Why doesn’t the black outline vanish as well? The black outline is drawn on the outside of the bag and absorbs almost all incident light, reflecting very little. Since there is almost no reflected light to be redirected by refraction, the black outline remains visible.

⭕ MATERIALS:
- Empty can
- Water
⭕ INSTRUCTIONS:
(1) Fill the can with water just enough to cover the bottom.
(2) Carefully place the can on its rim on the table.
(*) Be ready for some trial, error, and triumph as you test out this cool trick. If the can does not balance on its rim try adding more water or pour some water out.
⭕ SCIENCE EXPLAINED:
This balancing act is possible due to the lower center of gravity created by the water at the bottom of the can. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where the can’s weight is evenly distributed over its rim.
