They might not have been lying when they came up with the old marketing scheme… “Sitting is the new smoking” This massive review (PMID=34417979) showed just how dangerous being inactive can be which I compare in this video to the risk of all-cause mortality in smokers vs. non-smokers. *Studies where I got that number (PMID=22688992 & PMID=30924901)* And this isn’t to say walking as many steps as some of the groups in this video is easy. Things like injuries, working conditions/schedule, and other lifestyle conditions make it hard to move. But I do think adjusting certain pieces of your lifestyle that are within your control could go a long way. - Adding 10-minute walks after each meal through the day - Parking at the back of the lot when out/at work - Asking for short breaks at work to move if you’re seated all day - Adjusting your schedule to allow for more flexibility in your day where you can - Etc. 16,000 steps per day is not realistic for most people - but moving the needle forward from where it is now for where you are is an incredible first step (pun intended) #weightloss #steps #walking #fitness #healthylifestyle #health
