Here’s a really fun way to use acupressure to address it. Since not all of us have a boo thang 🥲 or can get someone to massage it, let’s explore it ourselves. 🥰 In acupressure/acupuncture, we use a technique style known as “mirroring and imaging”, where one body part looks another. In this case, the thumb acts as a limb (arm or leg), and the meat department of the thumb (thenar eminence) acts as the shoulder blade region. Did you know a stiff neck can be an early sign a cold is coming on? In Chinese medicine, that neck “crick” can show up before other symptoms hit. Large Intestine 10 is a classic, go-to point acupuncturists use to treat crick-in-the-neck or as we call it: Luo Zhen (落枕) - which is when you have acute neck stiffness, pain, and limited rotation, often when you wake up. When this happens, it’s often due to stuck energy in your Large Intestine Energy channel, and this point is like “drano” to that clog. It restores good energy (Qi) and blood circulation to the channel, helping you feel better. When you catch Luo Zhen, this is a good time to shore up your immune system energy - which could stop a potential cold before it turns into something much worse. I’ve used these methods many times and avoided nasty colds. Here’s I would do right away 👇 1️⃣ Try this point This can help release the neck and move things before they settle in. 2️⃣ Hydrate with warm fluids I like warm water with lemon and a pinch of sea salt. Sip often throughout the day. 3️⃣ Rest and protect your warmth This is a great time for a hot bath or sauna, extra rest (permission to nap!), and honestly canceling plans if you can. DO NOT go out in the cold with wet hair, and keep your neck covered so you hold onto your warmth. Cold and flu cases are everywhere right now, especially here in NYC, and Chinese medicine has so many simple tools to help you prevent illness or recover faster once you’re struck with a nasty cold or flu. If you’ve been watching my stories over the last few days you’ll know I’ve had a really sore neck. Basically I woke up one morning and it was a really stiff, by the end of the day I was agony and I couldn’t move it at all 😩. This is now day five, it’s slightly better, I can move it a few centimetres left and right 😣. I honestly can’t believe how sleeping awkwardly can give you so much pain. *the previous posts were all filmed before I hurt my neck, I’ve not been able to do anything. Putting heat pads on my neck really helped too ⭐️ Anytime my body is injured, it makes me appreciate my (usually) pain free body and I’m even more grateful for all the things it can do. It also makes me think about all the people who are living with pain daily and what warriors you are. I’ve been so limited in my movement but I found the exercises in the video gave a little relief.
