EXBaby stingrays develop inside soft, leathery egg cases often called “mermaid’s purses.”
While inside, the young ray curls its body tightly, which is why it looks like something wrapped inside a piece of pasta.
Unlike many fish, stingrays are born quite developed and don’t go through a larval stage.
As soon as they hatch, they can swim, bury themselves in sand, and hunt small prey on their own, relying very little on their parents for survival.

The Ocellated eagle ray (Aetobatus ocellatus) typically swims over sandy bottoms or near reefs 🪸 and feeds on hard-shelled creatures like mollusks 🦪 and crabs 🦀, using its flat, plate-like teeth to crush their shells.
Unlike stingrays, eagle rays have a more streamlined body and a distinct, beak-like snout. They also have longer, whip-like tails with up to 6 venomous spines near the base, while stingrays typically have shorter tails with a single spine. Eagle rays prefer swimming in open water, often in groups, whereas stingrays are usually solitary and spend more time resting on the ocean floor. 🌊🦅✨🐚

We’re still in shock! And I bet you’re wondering how Stephanie survived this. Honestly. It’s a miracle. We all thought she was a goner! 😛
Okay okay, this was just a playful moment. As long as you don’t startle or provoke a stingray, they’re practically goofy little golden retrievers of the sea. We’ve been surprised at how these Atlantic stingrays have a remarkably warm disposition.
We used to think stingrays were really vicious and aggressive. Once we met a few of them, our tunes changed. They’re great! 😊

Seeing adult marine life close to the beach, at the same spot every night, next to a harbour or fish market, means the animals are being fed or feeding on leftovers from the fishermen.
You might encounter locals or tourists telling you you can feed them or touch them, but you should not. Here are the risks for you and for them:
🐟 Feeding Wildlife
• It teaches them to associate humans with food, making them more likely to approach people, beg, steal, or even become aggressive. This often leads to bites or injuries, which can transmit diseases.
• Feeding sites attract multiple species into one area, increasing the spread of diseases and parasites - both between animals and to humans.
• It also causes competition and fights among animals, leading to injuries. Being fed, most of the time the wrong food, disrupts their natural diet, leaving them malnourished and dependent on human handouts.
✋Touching Wild Animals
• Physical contact is extremely stressful and uses a lot of energy weakening their immune system, which can cause death.
• Improper handling of fragile animals like baby sea turtles can cause long-term shell deformity, preventing them from surviving in the wild.
• Wild animals can carry diseases like rabies - touching them exposes you to disease and parasites.
• Our skin is also full of bacterias and other things (sunscreen, nicotine..) which can also transmit disease to marine life.
➡️ If you really love animals, love them from afar. Keep your distance for your safety and theirs. Love them wild, love them exhibiting their natural behaviour in their natural habitat.
🩵 Love them being themselves, and help protect them by education people who might not know better yet, so we can all protect the ocean better
