Purple had been released only two months earlier and had already debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, selling millions and producing “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline,” and “Big Empty.” With Nirvana gone, Alice In Chains fading from the road, and Pearl Jam retreating from the industry, STP had quietly become one of the biggest active bands in the world. “Still Remains” was one of the darkest and most complex songs in their catalog. Never released as a single and rarely played live, it explored obsession, emotional dependency, and psychological control — themes that mirrored Scott Weiland’s growing internal struggles. Written primarily by the DeLeo brothers and shaped by Weiland’s haunting delivery, the song showed a band moving beyond grunge formulas into something more mature, layered, and unsettling. This performance captures STP in a rare window of true prime. Weiland was only 26 years old, still vocally intact, theatrical, and magnetic, before addiction and legal trouble would begin to unravel everything just a year later.
