NBStumpy has put up a good fight from his spot near the Tidal Basin. That fight will come to an end in May.
But to preserve Stumpy as best they can, the National Park Service has enlisted the help of some D.C. tree experts: the U.S. National Arboretum.
Here's how they'll try and turn clippings from Stumpy into a series of Stumpy 2.0s, creating more trees that are genetically identical to the Little Cherry Tree that Could.

THStumpy hasn’t been himself lately, moving slow and missing his usual energy. After a vet visit, we learned he has diabetes, which has changed everything, including his diet. I’ve been researching the dog food industry, shocked to find wheat and corn as the main ingredients in some ‘diabetic’ dog foods. Slowly, we’re transitioning him to healthier options, adding real ingredients like eggs and tuna. It’s a journey, but he’s feeling better already.
