- get there EARLY (like 7am) and make sure you get into the Mario kart line as soon as you get there. We got there at 7:30 and waited an hour for the ride

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) — likely would not have existed if not for the development of the “Super Nintendo World” theme park attractions at Universal Studios. During the creation of the park, Nintendo’s legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto met Chris Meledandri, the founder of Illumination, and the two formed a partnership that bridged the gap between Nintendo’s strict control over its intellectual property and Hollywood’s desire to adapt the iconic plumber for the big screen.
This collaboration was pivotal because it allowed Miyamoto to take an active, hands-on role in the production, ensuring the film respected the source material in a way that previous adaptations had failed to do. By merging Illumination’s animation expertise with Nintendo’s uncompromising creative vision, they created a blockbuster that not only broke box-office records for video game adaptations but also successfully translated the whimsical logic of the Mushroom Kingdom into a cinematic experience.
