We get so many questions about this beautiful brick! Here are all the details rounded up together!! Our style includes just a bit of a farmhouse feel, but more classic and timeless. Many of the brick trends we were seeing when we were building were too sterile for our taste. My husband scoured online to find these bricks — they are reclaimed from old buildings out of Chicago! The bricks were taken from old buildings coming down, and then the faces of the bricks were cut off to leave only a thin-set veneer that would be light enough to use for walls and tile. The brick in the entryway was done in a herringbone pattern with a border around the outside. It was laid by our tiler (who is an expert, this is a REALLY hard pattern to center in the space!). We ended up purchasing far more brick than we needed, so much husband spent a week bricking the back wall of our bathroom before the vanity was installed. He glued the individual bricks to the wall and then used a mortar-based grout between. These were laid in a normal brick set pattern. 
After all this was said and done, we had a bit more brick left, so we got some additional cheaper bricks from Lowes and mixed them together with the remaining reclaimed bricks that we had. We used that mix of bricks to tile our outdoor entryway in the same herringbone pattern with a border as the foyer, which connects those indoor and outdoor spaces. You really can’t tell the difference between this space and the entryway, even as you are standing between both of them! We love the continuity throughout the house — the brick moments are so special and I think because of the brick we chose, they will be timeless! We really debated between brick or stone in our space, and brick won out!
