Arriving in Reykjavik after an early morning flight, we checked into the fabulous Iceland Parliament Hotel, right in the center of the city. The hotel sits on Austurvöllur, the historic square in front of Iceland’s parliament building. In warmer months, this area is known for being lively and full of people—but in the middle of winter, it was a completely different scene. The square was quiet. Empty. Just a wide open space surrounded by buildings, with the kind of stillness you only get in the cold. No crowds, no energy—just us, the wind, and a very quiet introduction to Reykjavik. It’s a good reminder that timing changes everything when you travel.
