These are my first ever self-drafted dresses! I’m so proud! It was the end of April when @threadandsprout shared her self-drafted pinafore dress that was inspired by @tartan_tarlatan and @leila.makes over a year ago. After seeing Justice’s dress, I felt so encouraged to try it myself. I loved that it accentuates the waist and can be easily adjusted with size changes. So after gathering up the courage and asking both Anna and Justice a few questions, I took out my paper and pencil and started drafting my dream dress. After taking an entire month, I’m walking away from this project with so much courage to experiment more, be more creative and brave. I no longer consider myself a beginner sewist! I feel like after this project, I’ve “graduated” to an intermediate level. I’m here to say, you can do it too! Be patient with yourself, ask questions, and reach out to your community for support. I hope you have the courage to be brave and try scary things. (And update: if you’re so inclined, you can make one too! PDF pattern is up on my website !) Happy June 1st friends. I’m def going to make a kids version and already have a pattern made for 2t and 4t so stay tuned for that. I love that you can wear this dress in the summer by itself, in the fall with a cardigan, and the winter with tights and a long sleeve shirt- really any season! I dyed my muslin with black walnuts so now it’s wearable! I’m definitely going to make more. What do you guys think? Please head over to her feed to see all that she makes! 💛 • @threadandsprout tells us that: I fall in love with every piece I make 🫶 Since I spend quite a long time with every piece, from the design process to cutting and sewing and then to packing it up, I feel like I get to know each one deeply and love each one. And hopefully some of that love gets infused into the seams as I sew them and so then we you get the piece I made for you, maybe you can feel some of that love and it can feel like wearing a hug. At least that’s my hope. 💓 This is a custom dress I made for a maker friend and I can’t wait for her to get it! I chose this beautiful, all-year-round dress from @threadandsprout , an SF brand I absolutely adore and first discovered at a West Coast Craft pop-up. The handmade clay necklace is also from a local SF maker I found at the event last year. They’ve since discontinued their clay pieces, which makes this one feel even more special. Loved wearing two handmade pieces and seeing how effortlessly this look stood out.
