I started jamming on the Keuh drum ( or Nkul, a carved out slit drum, used for sending messages like morse code, from village to village)

-Among the Bamiléké people, the funeral ceremony is a very important rite. This event is a way to commemorate the deceased and to acknowledge that they are now part of the ancestors who watch over them. To begin the funeral rite, people first perform initiatory songs and dances. These songs and dance steps serve to praise the deceased and wish them a safe journey to the afterlife.

- J'ai aperçu ce cercle de danse funéraire de loin, mes oreilles étant attirées par ce rythme puissant de mangambeu en 6/8. Comme toujours, je n'ai pas pu résister et j'ai demandé à jouer avec les musiciens au milieu du cercle.
J'ai commencé à improviser sur le tambour Keuh (ou Nkul, un tambour à fente , utilisé pour envoyer des messages, comme du code morse, de village en village). Puissant!!!❤️

-Chez les Bamilékés, la cérémonie funéraire est un rite très important. Cet événement est un moyen de commémorer les défunts et de reconnaître qu’ils font désormais partie des ancêtres qui veillent sur eux. Pour commencer le rite funéraire, les personnes entament d’abord des chants et danses initiatiques.
Ces chants et pas de danses permettent de faire l’éloge des défunts et de leur souhaiter une bonne traversée dans l’au-delà.
