He didn’t want to.
He squirmed.
He protested.
And we still brushed.
Not because I’m mean.
Not because I like the struggle.
But because cavities don’t care if they’re 3.
You are NOT a bad parent if you have to hold the boundary on brushing.
You’re protecting their health. ❤️
Just like we buckle them into a car seat when they don’t want to sit… sometimes we have to do hard things for their safety. Dental health is no different. Cavities can become serious — even dangerous.
A few tips that help us 👇
✨ Use whatever toothbrush they will let you use. Manual? Great. Electric? Great.
✨ Introduce an electric brush early to help them get used to the vibration they’ll feel at the dentist. For developing nervous systems, that sensation can be a LOT — so go slow.
✨ We usually start with a little electric (for sensory tolerance) and then switch to manual to finish. Let them use both as they learn.
✨ If they’re swallowing toothpaste, consider a hydroxyapatite fluoride-free option. We’re currently using Happy Tooth. @tryhappytooth
✨ Sit on the floor and lay their head in your lap like this video — it gives you great visibility, stabilizes their head, and helps you gently control busy little hands.
Stay patient.
Stay calm.
Stay kind.
Even if they’re trying to bite your fingers. 🤣
I promise — if you stay consistent, it gets easier. One day it just becomes part of the routine.
