The rain that built a world. 🌧️🦖🌋 About 232 million years ago, during the Triassic Period, the sky opened up and didn't close for nearly two million years. This phenomenon is known to scientists as the Carnian Pluvial Event. The Volcanic Trigger: The rain wasn't an accident. Massive volcanic eruptions in the Wrangellia terrane released a staggering amount of greenhouse gases. This caused global temperatures to soar, which increased evaporation from the oceans, leading to a humid, soggy planet that was stuck in a cycle of constant rainfall. The Rise of the Giants: Before this "Great Deluge," dinosaurs were just a minor group of animals. But the 2-million-year rain changed the vegetation of the planet, killing off older species and allowing dinosaurs to diversify and dominate. We literally owe the age of the dinosaurs to a massive, million-year climate shift. It’s a reminder that Earth's climate is a powerful, interconnected system and once it starts raining, it might not stop for a very, very long time. ✨ How would your life change if it rained every single day for the next month? 👇 #universia #geology #dinosaurs #triassic #earthscience #sciencefacts #prehistoric #evolution #climatehistory #natureisamazing #paleontology #volcano

RIP TRILOBITA 🥲 Trilobites lived for 270 million years. Ice ages, volcanoes, meteor misses, ocean chaos… they saw it all 🌊🌋 Then came the Great Dying, the Permian–Triassic extinction (~251.9 Ma). 81% of marine species gone. 70% of land vertebrates out. Even insects struggled 💀🌍🐜 But trilobites? Sometimes Earth says “nope” and you get a fossilised plot twist 🦴✨ Goodbye, my love. Rest in power. ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️ Background image: 'Acidic oceans linked to greatest extinction ever.' Alexandra Witze. Nature (2015).

🌋 The Day 96% of Life Disappeared 💀🌍 Everyone Talks About the Dinosaurs… But There Was One Extinction Far Deadlier. 252 million years ago — long before T. rex. The Permian–Triassic extinction. The Great Dying. Here’s what made it the most brutal reset in Earth’s history: 🌋 Endless Supervolcanoes: Eruptions in Siberia lasting thousands of years 🔥 Runaway Greenhouse Effect: Temperatures soared beyond survival limits 🌊 Oceans Turned Toxic: Acidification and oxygen collapse wiped out marine life 💨 Methane Release: Greenhouse gases spiked, accelerating planetary chaos 🦴 96% of Marine Life Gone: Entire ecosystems erased almost completely This wasn’t impact. It was slow planetary suffocation. Forests burned. Oceans stagnated. The air became poison. Species didn’t just decline. They vanished. The dinosaur extinction killed 75%. This one nearly ended everything. Life didn’t recover for millions of years. Earth has faced annihilation before. And it survived — barely. 💬 If 96% of life vanished today… do you think humanity would endure? 👉 Follow @forgottenearthfiles for more Deadliest Prehistoric Era files and the darkest chapters of Old Earth. 🎥 Video Credit: DM for credits/removal to the real owner. . . . #permian #extinction #prehistoric #oldearth #forgottenearthfiles

TANYSTROPHEUS Tanystropheus (Ancient Greek: τανυ~ ‘long’ + στροφευς ‘hinged’) is an extinct genus of archosauromorph reptile which lived during the Triassic Period in Europe, Asia, and North America. It is recognisable by its extremely elongated neck, longer than the torso and tail combined. The neck was composed of 13 vertebrae strengthened by extensive cervical ribs. Tanystropheus is one of the most well-described non-archosauriform archosauromorphs, known from numerous fossils, including nearly complete skeletons. Some species within the genus may have reached a total length of 6 meters (20 ft), making Tanystropheus the longest non-archosauriform archosauromorph as well.[1] Tanystropheus is the namesake of the family Tanystropheidae, a clade collecting many long-necked Triassic archosauromorphs previously described as “protorosaurs” or “prolacertiforms”. Tanystropheus contains at least two valid species as well as fossils which cannot be referred to a specific species. The type species of Tanystropheus is T. conspicuus, a dubious name applied to particularly large fossils from Germany and Poland. Complete skeletons are common in the Besano Formation at Monte San Giorgio, on the border of Italy and Switzerland. Monte San Giorgio fossils belong to two species: the smaller T. longobardicus and the larger T. hydroides. These two species were formally differentiated in 2020 primarily on the basis of their strongly divergent skull anatomy. When T. longobardicus was first described in 1886, it was initially mistaken for a pterosaur and given the name “Tribelesodon”. Starting in the 1920s, systematic excavations at Monte San Giorgio unearthed many more Tanystropheus fossils, revealing that the putative wing bones of “Tribelesodon” were actually neck vertebrae.

They survived the Ordovician-Silurian (~444 mya), Late Devonian (~375 mya), Permian-Triassic (~252 mya), Triassic-Jurassic (~201 mya), and Cretaceous-Paleogene (~66 mya)… all without even changing their look. Basically, evolution’s ultimate “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

🌍 SCARIEST Periods in Earth’s History 💀 (Last One Is Unbelievable) Earth wasn’t always blue skies and breathable air. Some eras were so hostile… Survival itself was almost impossible. Here are the most terrifying periods in Old Earth: ☣️ The Triassic Period: After the Great Dying, massive volcanic eruptions filled the air with toxic gases — triggering acid rains that scorched land and poisoned oceans 🌋 The Permian Extinction: Up to 90% of life wiped out — oceans suffocated, ecosystems collapsed, the planet nearly reset 🔥 The Early Jurassic: Superstorms, extreme CO₂ levels, and unstable climates reshaping continents 🌑 The Hadean Eon: A molten surface, meteor bombardment, and no oxygen — Earth was literally a burning nightmare 😵 Last One: Imagine breathing air so polluted it burns your lungs… and rain that scars your skin The Triassic wasn’t just the rise of dinosaurs. It was a world recovering from apocalypse. Toxic skies. Unstable climates. A planet experimenting with survival. Life didn’t thrive because conditions were safe. It adapted because extinction was constant. Before humans. Before civilization. Earth itself was the predator. 💬 If you could witness one prehistoric era safely… which would you choose? 👉 Follow @forgottenearthfiles for the deadliest prehistoric eras, extinction events, and the darkest truths of Old Earth. 🎥 Video Credit: DM for credits/removal to the real owner. . . . #prehistoric #triassic #extinction #oldearth #forgottenearthfiles

Your time machine is broken, and you're stuck in the Triassic, 250 million years ago. The desert heat is unbearable, the air is toxic, and deadly sandstorms are closing in. You have no way out. Your only hope is to survive long enough to escape. But how can you stay alive in one of Earth’s most dangerous periods? And will it end there?
