IDThe day of my laser surgery was one of the hardest of my life. Not the surgery itself, but the bit after, the bit when the Drs said to go and wait on the sofa for an hour and they will come back in later and check to see if the triplets hearts were still beating.
Every minute sitting there in a quiet room, knowing that their fragile heart beats could be failing at that exact second. I felt the fear of that loss so closely but we were so lucky and I remain forever grateful.
My heart honestly hurt so much for that Mama, there just aren’t words to help make the loss any easier to bare.
If you want to know more about TTTS and how it can affect placenta sharing babies then please watch The Surgeons cut on Netflix. Our surgeon was the incredible Professor Nicolaides who features in episode 1. Our surgery was filmed for this but wasnt included - the stories that were included broke my heart in a thousand pieces. I literally sobbed on my sofa watching it. Fascinating episode on fetal surgery and the miracle of modern medicine.
