Anyway. Honestly I wanna explore and see more of Kalim's relationship with his parents. It's clear that Mama and Papa Asim clearly love Kalim, but it's also pretty obvious through context clues that they, more specifically his dad, sort of forced this very toxic positivity mindset onto him.
Kalim talks about how his dad is always smiling no matter what, and directly told Kalim that being poisoned and kidnapped is "Just part of being the heir to the Asim family." Jamil telling him the same thing.
From a very young age the treatment Kalim experienced is normalized in his mind, just something to be expected. He's not allowed to complain because its just part of being an Asim.
This is one of my pet peeves with twst bc it always just ends up using Kalim's trauma as a joke or to set up other's reactions. But we never really get to see how badly affected he is from his trauma, we get snippets and one off lines but otherwise Kalim in general just gets treated as comic relief lol.
But in reality being kidnapped is a horrifying experience, not to mention we dont know what they could've done to him during those kidnappings.
Anyway thats enough rambling, I do like to think Kalim was closer to his mom and basically attached to the hip to her. Basically up until Kalim started playing with Jamil more. Latching on from one safe space to the another.

BEHow I imagine Kalim felt inside overhearing Jamil's plans to get him kicked out for seemingly no reason.
People talk a lot about Jamil's feelings during book 4, which TO BE CLEAR, are valid and his overblot is valid. But I sometimes can't stop thinking about how Kalim must've felt during the scene where Jamil's plans get exposed over the speakers. Bc think about it-
This is before we find out the reason why Jamil is doing this, so from Kalim's perspective, his best friend seemed to suddenly betray him out of nowhere for no reason. He finds out later why but just imagine how he must've felt in that moment.
One thing I'll always believe is you can read book 4 and understand both Kalim and Jamil's perspectives and feelings. I feel like blindly only being willing to understand 1's feelings defeats the purpose of how nuanced their relationship is.
Ik this trend is mostly being goofy but I wanted to do it xD Plus I learned how to make animations in blender hehe.
