“I have loved this show and the music for a very long time. I’m very excited to bring the characters off the page and bring them to life. I also couldn’t be more excited to work with this incredible group of artists.”
What’s something fun or unexpected about you outside of theatre?
“I used to compete in waterskiing when I was a kid!”
What drew you to want to work with Elevator Theatre Company?
“This is my third show with Elevator and every time I’ve gotten the amazing opportunity to work with Josh and everyone involved it has been magic. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to do one of my favourite musicals with a company that fosters a great space for collaboration, artistry and connection.”

CALast weekend, I had the privilege of understudying and co-hosting a private dinner with @theladykaytv in celebration of International Women’s Day. This was specifically for women in Journalism (Business,Tech and Independent Journalists), Media, and PR.
You could tell that these ladies were out to have a good time while sharing the challenges they faced as women in their respective industries, ways for possible collaboration amongst themselves and career growth.
It was exciting to see how the carefully curated questions facilitated interaction amongst them, connections and the commitment they’ve made to always reproduce themselves and help other women when the opportunity arises.
What’s a gathering of great storytellers without gist and banter flying up and down. Some people caught their sub and others great admiration.🙂
I could see faces lit up during the introductions when they could finally put a face to the contents they’ve been consuming. The ‘I love that piece you wrote about.., I’m a big fan! I’m always looking forward to your articles, OMG! You are so beautiful in person and you write so intelligently’ all contributed to the warmness that was felt during the dinner.
During the ice breaker session, I asked them about what they enjoyed the least about what they do and one major answer I got was their inability to restrict their creativity (gain adequate rest) and things being outside their control.
The tireless work that these women do which go unrecognized raises a concern for the need to spotlight women at different levels in the organization who are helping them achieve their business goals and gain global recognition. Someone said and I quote ‘everyone must not be a founder, but there are people holding things down and should be appreciated for the work they do.

NDLast semester, Dr. Fen Kennedy invited students to participate in shaping their casting process, allowing them to implement a totally new system for understudying work in a repertoire concert. While the system itself had advantages and disadvantages, the biggest shift was going from an authoritarian, competitive model to one where all their values were in clear communication.
Inclusion and equity are often placed in rhetorical opposition to rigor and discipline. This presentation at our NDEO Virtual PD Day for Dance Teachers will demonstrate that inclusion and equity in fact often require more discipline, better self-motivation, and more rigorous technical training. The difference is that when students collaborate with instructors to determine their own values and goals, that rigor and discipline is self-imposed, and moves the whole community towards both equity and excellence.

Dr. Fen Kennedy (@fensfeet) is an Assistant Professor of dance based at the University of Alabama. Their research can be read in Picture a Professor, the Journal of Dance Education, the Routledge anthology Politics as Public Art and on Dance Teacher Magazine. Kennedy choreographs regularly for Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre, as well as producing independent interdisciplinary installations in collaboration with Melissa Yes and VINEGAR Projects. In 2022 Kennedy was honored to be a writer in residence at the National Humanities Center, and an artist in residence at the Hambidge Center.
