Another monoprint using a foil covered card takeaway lid as a plate, this time playing with wiping a lot of the ink away to leave the subject in focus. I had lots of lovely interest and questions from my last post so I’ll cover some of the main points again here for you just in case: Equipment used: - takeaway container lid - basically a foil coated card and yes you can reuse it a few times if you’re gentle 👍🏻 - Ink from Charbonnel - Paynes Grey etching/relief oil based - but any that’s thick enough to work with and not dry out quickly will work - paper type unknown as an old off cut but its quite thick so has some give to it when going through the press - I’ve soaked it in water for around 15 minutes and then blotted it touch dry to get that embossed edge - plus I think it prints slightly better than dry 🤷‍♀️ #slowmade #originalart #printmaking #monoprint #artworkinprogress #monoprinting #monotype #handdrawn #artandmemory #retroarmchair #oneofakindart #artlovers

Took a break from filming some printmaking tutorials @the.creativityproject to make something for myself! I highly recommend these easy styrofoam sheets and printing ink, this was sooo much fun 🍄 Our course ends on Aug 1st so if you want to join — it’s self paced and you have access to the materials for life — join now and get the amazing perk of $360 worth of coupons for curriculum guides and summer camps in our shop! 🍄 Follow the link in my profile or go to the-creativityproject.com/membership 🍄 ps: have to add that my favorite part of this video is how my teen/young adult children still will converge wherever I am and you can hear some of their conversations and then the kitchen ruckus making food. Because they need 7 meals a day, but loving every minute of it 🥹

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRINTING TOOL? If I could choose only 1 “texture tool” to use on my gel plate from now on it would probably be a flower. I find printing with flowers so satisfying, I could do it all day long! What would be your choice if you could only pick one?? Hard question, I know, but you have to make a choice 😅 Let me know in the comments! 🌸 Details: I used Ara acrylic paint + matte medium for the pick up layer on my @gelliarts gel printing plate. I let every layer dry in between and also left the paper on the plate until the paint was dry. The background paper I printed on was made with the talc powder technique I showed last week on Schut 360gr/165lbs paper for acrylic. The line up tool is called mini placement tool and also available from Gelli Arts. The wide brayer is a lino roller and can be found at art supply stores. #birgitkoopsen #gelliarts #printmaking #araacrylics #rainbowismyfavoritecolor

A natural alternative to cyanotype prints! and there’s a good chance you already have all the materials already in your home! notes: - if you want to measure, mix 1tsp turmeric with 3tbsp rubbing alcohol - wear gloves and protect your working area - this stains! - the paper is photosensitive. put the papers in the dark to dry until you’re ready to make the prints - the glass keeps the pieces secured, you can also use clips - leave in direct sunlight for 2-6 hrs. the amount of time depends on the sun’s intensity and desired contrast. The yellow pigment will fade in the areas exposed to light. - to finish the print you can rinse it with a solution of water and baking soda or borax. Borax leaves the print with an orange hue. Baking soda gives the print a red/burgundy color. - anthotypes are not permanent and will fade over time. store your final print in a dark place or scan it to create a permanent copy. You could also frame it with UV protective glass. turmeric sun print anthotype science experiment art projects for kids #anthotype #falldiy #fallcraftideas #diyhomeart #sunprint

🌞 Anthotype Sun Printing with Turmeric 🌿✨ We’ve been exploring the alchemical magic of Anthotypes — a beautiful and ancient photographic process that uses plant pigments and sunlight to create natural prints. More accessible than cyanotypes, Anthotypes require no camera, just patience, sunlight, and a bit of trust in the process. We mixed: 🟡 1 tsp turmeric 🧴 4–6 tsp antibacterial hand gel …to create our own natural light-sensitive emulsion. 📄 We used 250gsm mixed media paper (important — it needs to hold up to a rinse in water + baking soda). 🎨 Paint the paper, let it dry in a dark place, then when ready creatively arrange your foraged items on top. Ferns today worked really well 🔲 Secure under a plastic sheet (glass or plexiglass is best) on a flat surface in direct sunlight. ⏳ We only had 2 hours, so our prints came out lighter — but ideally aim for 4–6 hours or more for bolder results. 💧 Rinse gently in a bowl of baking soda + water, then hang to dry. You’ll see more reactions as it dries — if we’d had longer, the turmeric would’ve shifted to a deeper reddish hue. We’re hooked, and will definitely keep experimenting! #Anthotype #SunPrinting #NaturalPhotography #TurmericArt #ForestSchoolMagic #ForagedArt #AccessibleArt #EcoPrinting #NatureCrafts #PrintmakingWithPlants #WildCreative

🎉kitchen lithography in 5 easy steps- Day 32 of #the100dayschallenge - Printmaking Fun🎉 As many people have asked about the process of Kitchen lithography. I thought I would make a little video from the beginning to the end in a few steps. Steps: Step 1: Prepare your plate by wrapping a sheet of foil around a card. Step 2: Draw with a crayon. Step 3: Process the plate with cola. Step 4: Ink up. Step 5: Print with a spoon. Materials: 1. Kitchen foil (aluminium foil) 2. Cola – for processing the plate (any brand and make is fine) 3. Lithography pencil (or any oil-based drawing material. ie, crayons) 4. Water – for washing the plate 5. Oil-based printmaking ink (oil paint also works) 6. Roller – to apply the ink 7. Sponge – for cleaning the plate 8. Spoon – for printing (a real press also works!) 9. Tape – to tape down the plate 10. Kitchen towel 11. Vegetable oil – for cleaning up 12. 2 x cardboard sheets – one for the foil plate, one for rolling up the ink (you can also use a tray and dinner plates instead, as long as they have a flat surface) 13. Paper – to print your edition (any paper will do, even photocopy paper) ✨ I hope you like this tutorial and manage to get all the materials and give it a go. If you manage to make a print, I would love to see it. Please tag me and get in touch. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. ✨ I also run a kitchen litho course @MorleyPrint London, if you would like to explore more Kitchen lithography, you are welcome to come along. The course starts in September, for more info, see the link in the bio.

@chicibongi
Fabric block printing ink is really hard to find & expensive in South Africa which is why I started experimenting with different ways to make my own ink. After loads of trail and error I finally cooked up a recipe that works for me and uses materials I already had in my home. And today I am sharing it with you ❤️. This is a rough eyeballed DIY recipe that you will have to play around with to get a feel for - tweak it as you feel needed: For 4 parts acrylic paint use 1 part acrylic retarder (helps keep the ink wet) and 1 part fabric softener (makes the acrylic paint preform like fabric paint). A few tips: * Acrylic tends to dry quickly so wash your stamps, sponges and brushes ASAP after using them to prevent a build up of ink on your stamp. This is the biggest con of this recipe - it dries faster and is more of a hassle to clean up compared to traditional inks. * This ink is machine wash safe if you make sure to let your prints properly dry for at least 48 hours before heat setting them with a hot iron (use the iron on high & put a piece of material between the iron and print, go over it for 30-60 seconds.) Let it sit for at least another 24-48 hours before washing it inside out on a cold & gentle washing cycle. If you do this right your prints will last years!! * Store your inks in an airtight container otherwise it will harden. If it is slightly thickened when you want to use it again add a few drops of fabric softener and acrylic retarder until you reach the desired consistency again. Let me know if you try this out and what you think!! I’d also LOVE to hear if you have any printing tips/hacks or what alternative inks you have experimented with to print on fabric! 🪄 #blockprinting #printmaking #printmakersofinstagram #wearableart
