AMLast week I got my eyelids trimmed.
For years, I’ve been using my eyebrows to open my eyes. Don’t believe me? Watch a few of my recent videos.
So I took the leap and got an upper bleph last week.
Here are a few things I’ve learned during the process.
1. We put so much value on appearance. But no one actually cares. I walked around with frankenstitches OR with a hat and sunnies indoors/on zoom for a whole week. Not a single person mentioned or asked what was up. Part of this, I’m sure is politeness. But ultimately, I think most people are so wrapped up in their own lives that they probably don’t care that much. So if you’re stressing about what people will think about you, might as well just stop doing that.
2. We focus a ton on what could go wrong, but not enough on what could go right. Leading up to this, I caught my thoughts doing this: what if it gets botched. What if I look like the joker. What if I go blind? But never: what if I lose the heaviness my face feels at the end of the day. What if I can see better. What if I don’t look like an old lady when I’m not even 40 yet?
3. I am not special. This one is the most important. Before, I watched some recovery stuff on the internet and decided that MY recovery would go better because I’m special/healthy/active. But guess what. I’m not. And neither are you. Our bodies are incredibly in what they can do and recover from. But it takes time and energy. So why do we think we can skip the process and just arrive at the result?? Because we are special? Nope.
4. Rest and recovery does wonders for the body. But we need activity too. Yesterday I got the all clear to return to the gym. I can’t wait. I found myself raring to go all week with no outlet to burn that energy up. Rest is pretty magical but too much rest can lead to misdirected energy. Bodies need to move. Use it or lose it.
That’s all for now. I’m excited to see how things continue to change. I’ve got one more week of the most swelling, and my face should continue to change for the next 3-9 months. I can already see more clearly than I have in ten years, and I don’t need to use my brows to open!
