Easy veg for first time growers… 🌱🫜 If you’re thinking of growing your own food this year either at home or on an allotment it can be daunting working out which vegetables to grow. These six vegetables we’ve found relatively easy to grow on our allotment. I chose these because once they’re in the ground they require minimum help from us. They provide high yields, don’t need things like netting and could be grown in containers. Here’s what I’ll be sowing and planting in the coming months… 🌱Potatoes 🌱Beans- Dwarf French and climbing if your have supports 🌱Radishes 🌱Lettuce and salad leaves 🌱Beetroot 🌱Courgette I did think about putting carrots in there but whilst they’re easy to sow they do need netting to protect from carrot fly during the spring-summer. It is similar to brassicas because they also need netting to protect from caterpillars and pigeons. I’d also add onion and shallots to the list especially growing these from sets as they have been fairly simple but sometimes they need to be protected from birds. Hopefully this list will help you grow your own vegetables this year. Remember to save it and send y to a gardening buddy.

Bit of work at the allotment yesterday 🌱 Sorted the last bed ready for planting in a few weeks. Tidied up the strawberry bed, planted some carrots, and prepped the patch for my potatoes. Rhubarb, onions, garlic, rye and broad beans are all coming along nicely — and a random flower has popped up 🌸 #AllotmentLife #GrowYourOwn #UKGardening #HomeGrown #VegPatch SpringPlanting Strawberries Carrots Potatoes Rhubarb Onions Garlic Rye BroadBeans GreenThumb

How I’m planning a productive allotment this year 🌱 (As a dad of 2 who also works a 9-5) 1. Low maintenance high yield Things like potatoes, courgettes and beans are really low maintenance. Plant them, keep them water and harvest them 2. Grow perennials I’ve got blackcurrants and raspberries which will need very little input from me but hopefully give loads of food 3. Succession sowing Instead of sowing every all at once i’ll sow every few weeks to space out harvests and keep them coming through the season 4. Self watering pots These will be in the greenhouse and mean the plants will have a reservoir of water to keep them going as I won’t be up to water every day Wish me luck and follow along to see how it all works out #allotment #gardening #growing #planting #homegrown

The allotment is finally starting to look like an allotment! 🌿 The raised beds are finished… we have built one big bed and three smaller ones. The big one will be for potatoes and onions this year. 🧅🥔 I’ve also bought my seed potatoes - Foremost, Charlotte and Maris Piper - and they’re currently chipping in egg trays ready for planting around mid-March once the soil warms up. 🌱 Next job… the paths! #growyourown #allotmentlife #groves #allotmentdiary #gardening
