In my last reel, I shared non-traditional veterinary careers that exist beyond clinical practice.
A lot of you then asked: “But where do I actually find these jobs?” or “What should I search for?”
Here’s the key reframe: These aren’t always job titles you apply for. They’re fields vets can work in, across NGOs, governments, international organisations, research projects, and consultancies.
If you only chase the exact title, you’ll miss most opportunities.
Instead, focus on the field, the skills, and the problems you want to work on.
Here are some of those fields, and what they actually involve ⬇️
• One Health programme management
Designing, coordinating, and running projects that connect human, animal, and environmental health across sectors and countries.
• Zoonotic disease prevention
Reducing spillover risks through surveillance, prevention strategies, and collaboration between animal, human, and environmental health actors.
• Health systems strengthening
Improving how surveillance, laboratories, reporting, and response systems function, especially at the human–animal interface.
• Risk assessment & preparedness
Anticipating health threats, mapping risks, and supporting outbreak and pandemic preparedness planning.
• Science–policy interface
Turning research into clear, usable evidence that informs policies, guidelines, and decision-making.
• Stakeholder engagement & partnerships
Bringing together governments, NGOs, communities, researchers, and funders so health initiatives actually work in practice.
• Sustainable food systems
Working on livestock, food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability using a One Health lens.
• Biosecurity & prevention
Focusing on prevention at borders, farms, markets, and ecosystems to reduce disease emergence before outbreaks happen.
• Implementation science
Understanding why good interventions or policies don’t always work in real-world settings, and how to adapt them to local contexts.

_VThis is an X-ray of a pregnant cat and it's absolutely mind-blowing. You can literally see the fully formed skeletons of unborn kittens inside their mother's womb.
The tiny skulls spines and little limbs are all clearly visible through the veterinary radiograph showing just how developed these babies are before they're even born.
Cats typically carry between 4 to 6 kittens per litter and vets use X-rays like this in late pregnancy to count exactly how many kittens are coming so they know if the delivery is complete.
What you're looking at is real-time proof that life is already fully structured and waiting before it ever takes its first breath.

FOR PART TWO GO TO MY GRID
I’ve made a similar video to this before, several years ago. But internationally, dogs with high rates of health issues related to genetics or extreme appearance are still a huge issue, so I wanted to reshare my perspective as a veterinary professional.
Perhaps I’m too much of an optimist, but I truly think that if more people witnessed some of the heartbreaking cases that those that work in veterinary see related to predictable breed related health issues, the landscape in terms of what breeds of dog are popular would look very different.
** I’m referring primarily to buying one of these dogs as a puppy, truly rescuing is different, if you have the means to take care of them and know what to expect, giving a dog from a shelter a home is a great thing to do.
