Andy Warhol famously said, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Well, this is that future and everyone seems to get at least 15 seconds now. This Friday, enjoy a 15-second glimpse of Warhol discussing putting on makeup. . In July 1986, Warhol made a rare visit to London to open an exhibition of his famous self-portraits. During the trip, he sat down for an interview with ITN. While his answers were unpredictable (as always), his unexpected admission is a reminder that it’s ok to be honest when you’ve hit a creative slump. Getting stuck is just a part of the process. You never know where the next burst of inspiration might take you. Tap the link in our bio to explore some of the self-portraits by this enigmatic artist. . . . . #art #warhol #artist #history #modernart #quotes #explore #explorepage

Andy Warhol created the Marilyn Monroe (Shot Marilyns) paintings in 1964… a set of paintings that would arguably sell for over $1 billion dollars in 2025. 60 years later this is the most valuable single work of an American artist. $185,000,000 in 2022. Likely more in 2025 - and with private works allegedly sold for more. These are the famous 40” × 40” canvases in different background colors (Sage Blue, Orange, Turquoise, Red, Light Blue) that later became known as the “Shot Marilyns” after a performance artist literally shot the stacked canvases with a revolver at Warhol’s studio. The dramatic escalation of price—from ~US$5,000 in the 1960s, to tens of millions in the 1990s/2000s, to nearly $200 million in 2022—reflects both the growth in the art market for marquee modern works and the superstar status of Warhol’s Marilyn images. The 2022 $185 million sale was part of a charity/estate sale (the foundation of collectors Thomas Ammann & Doris Ammann) and included work by many artists. Some sales (like the Orange version private sale in 2017/-18) are reported at very high private numbers (e.g., ~$200-240 million) but not always officially auctioned or publicly confirmed. The 4 Marilyn Warhols could arguably be the first $1 billion set of works by an American artist. #marilynmonroe #art #artist #andywarhol #foryoupage #foryou #marilyn #warhol #artwork #artsy #arts #artistic #artlovers #wealth #painting #auction

it was 1949. Andrew Warhola, as he was called then, had just moved to NYC, riding a night train from Pittsburgh, his possessions in a paper bag. He had an illustration degree from an art college and the names of one or two people who could possibly pay him to draw. Tina S. Fredericks, the young art editor at Glamour magazine, was one. But she was deep inside the Graybar Building, an imposing, intimidating edifice with an endless, echoing lobby. And, at that point, he was so painfully shy he could barely get a sentence out. The full story of what happened next will be covered in my book “Make It There“ if you can wait until 2028. Ha. #andywarhol #newyorkhistory #warhol #makeitthere2028

The most iconic voices of their Generation In its new collection presentation, “There is only one thing I fear in life, my friend: One day, the black will swallow the red”, the Fondation Beyeler dedicates a striking room to Andy Warhol, showcasing one of the most significant works from his late period: “Sixty Last Suppers” (1986) from the renowned Nicola Erni Collection. This monumental painting features sixty silkscreen renditions of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Last Supper” — a powerful meditation on religion, death, repetition, and collective memory. “Sixty Last Suppers” stands as one of the defining masterpieces of Warhol’s final creative chapter. In dialogue with Warhol’s unmistakable visual language is Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Profit I” (1982), an expressive reflection on power and identity from the artist’s early career. Together, these works unfold a compelling conversation between two of the most iconic voices of their generation. The Fondation Beyeler and the @BeyelerRestaurantImPark are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., including public holidays — such as Ascension Day tomorrow. We warmly invite you to experience this exceptional encounter of masterworks — on view through 31 August 2025 at the Fondation Beyeler. Today, we celebrate a true art legend known for his iconic portraits and soup cans – and well, his hair. Andrew Warhola was #bornonthisday August 6 1928, in Pennsylvania, and his first job was as an illustrator for a fashion magazine. There is little doubt about Andy Warhol’s (1928-1987) place in art history. From his iconic portraits and soup cans to his hair and personal style. Warhol is a true legend. Warhol uses pop culture’s simultaneously empty and mysterious icons, reproducing images of everything from Campbell’s canned soups to Chairman Mao and Coca-Cola. His works do not give viewers insight into the artist’s innermost being. They are about the world outside the pictures. Right now, you can experience a small selection of Warhol’s works from the Louisiana Collection in the museum’s East Wing. Here, they hang side by side with artists such as Yves Klein, Rotraut, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Francis Bacon, Ed Ruscha, Cindy Sherman, Ulay, Ana Mendieta, Gerhard Richter, and Tiffany Chung. #andywarhol #birthday #warhol #louisianamuseum #louisianamuseumofmodernart

No music Monday with images of Jean-Michel Basquiat on the day of his passing 36 years ago. 📸 by Andy Warhol between 1983 -1985. Pic 1 is a new one from me. The others have been posted before. More Basquiat images to come. Basquiat has been one of the biggest influences in my artistic career and I’m continually learning from his art. In the mid 90’s his love of Jazz and Bebop introduced me to musicians I had never heard of before and ones I still love to this day. My first tattoos at 18 were in honor of Basquiat. I applaud @lisanebasquiat & Jeanine Heriveaux, the sisters running the Basquiat estate, in keeping his spirit and art alive! They’re doing amazing things. Here’s what the Basquiat Insta page had to say about him today: On this day, we pause to remember our brother Jean-Michel who passed away 36 years ago. He was a radiant soul who painted the world with his unique vision. His art is more than vivid colors and bold lines; it is a powerful narrative that speaks to the complexities of identity, culture, and the human experience. Jean-Michel had a way of seeing things that was both raw and beautiful, capturing the essence of our shared humanity in every brushstroke. Today, we honor his legacy, not only as a pioneering artist but as a beloved brother whose creativity continues to inspire and challenge us all to see beyond the surface. As we celebrate his life and the indelible mark he left, let us carry forward his spirit of authenticity and self-expression. In his memory, may we all continue to break barriers and use our voices to create, inspire, and uplift. Thank you, Jean-Michel, for sharing your extraordinary gifts with us and the world. Your light continues to shine bright. He is missed. #jeanmichelbasquiat #basquiat

L'Anniversario: Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh 1928 - New York 1987). "Art is what you can get away with". Andy Warhol. #cultura #mostra #ministero #arte #italia #contemporanea #mic #gallerianazionaledartemoderna #gallerianazionale #andywarhol #andy #warhol #popart #popartstyle
