What a bittersweet feeling to end my breastfeeding journey. There were night especially when he kept waking to breastfeed—when I asked my husband, “When is he going to stop? I’m so tired.” And then one night, to my surprise, he just did. No forcing. No weaning plan. I didn’t do anything. He simply stopped. And suddenly, I found myself questioning it… missing him… feeling a little sad that he wasn’t breastfeeding anymore. It happened so fast. Little by little, he’s becoming independent—and I’m realizing how quickly this season passed. I stopped breastfeeding at 1 year 7 months… and this is what it really looked like for us 👇 It wasn’t overnight. It took us about 3 weeks to fully wean. There was no big drama. Just small adjustments… and a lot of patience. He was very attached. Breastfeeding was his starting point for sleep. No pacifier. No bottle comfort. Just me. Even now, he still wants to touch my boob when he falls asleep. Not to eat — just to feel close. And honestly? I let him. It’s his way of transitioning. Here’s what changed: 1️⃣ He started drinking a little cow’s milk Just enough to replace that comfort feed. 2️⃣ He actually began eating real breakfast Eggs, oatmeal, toast. Before, milk kind of was breakfast. 3️⃣ Night wakeups went from 5–8 times… to about 2. Mostly for water. So yes — he still wakes up. Let’s be real. 4️⃣ He still wakes up early 6:30–7:00 AM. Weaning didn’t magically fix mornings. 5️⃣ Dinner matters more now No more “he’ll nurse later.” Now I make sure it’s filling, balanced, with enough protein to last 10–11 hours. — What I learned: Breastfeeding was comfort and connection. Stopping didn’t break him. It just shifted how we connect. And if I’m honest… it gave me a little bit of myself back too. If you’re in this season — take your time.
