How to make wheat paste posters do low-budget marketing for your startup. What’s cool about wheat paste guerrilla marketing is you can approach it in a really creative way. For these I took one of our character illustrations for Romp and made fake missing person posters with the character. The posters told people to report sighting to our Instagram DMs. Startups have to get scrappy, and the ideas that come from have small marketing budgets are usually the best. Next time I need to add glue, and get an extension pole to add these where they can’t be taken down quite as easily. 😇 We’re launching our Denver / Boulder Romp beta community today and I’m so pumped! Wheat paste poster glue recipe 👇 Ingredients: • 1 cup plain flour • 4 cups water • 2 tbsp white vinegar (stops mould) Method: 1️⃣ In a pot, whisk 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of cold water until smooth. 2️⃣ Whisk in the remaining 3 cups of water. You can use hot or cold. In this video I used hot water, but cold works just as well and helps avoid lumps. 3️⃣ Heat on medium, stirring until it thickens to a smooth, custard-like texture. 4️⃣ Remove from heat and stir in vinegar. 5️⃣ Let it cool before using. Store in a jar in the fridge for 1–2 weeks. Be sure to ask chatGPT for the right quantities for the specific amount I need. I tried making a bigger batch by doubling the ingredients and it came out so so lumpy! Also, you can prompt Chat to tell you how much paste you’ll need for a wall of X size. It’s called ( wheat paste )basically your creating images on photoshop and your gluing them to the walls . It’s a fast way to get in and out with out getting caught . Lots of people are asking how the snail shell is made, I didn’t take a lot of process pictures but put this together from my earlier post. The frame is constructed of round reed (they sell coils of it in different diameters on Amazon, it’s used for like basket making) and I used masking tape to connect the parts bc I wanted a smooth taper between joints. Figuring out the spiral frame was a pain, I’d do it slightly differently next time. But essentially it’s a spiral on the back/bottom, and an elongated spiral on front/top connected by half circle curves (like the wall of a cylinder. Once taped, test fit, then a re-do on the top bc it wouldn’t fit through doorways lol. Mulberry paper comes in long rolls (also Amazon) so I was able to do sections in a whole sheet to keep it thin and see through. I used a homemade wheat paste for paper mache, there are recipes online. A little paint and some straps to wear it and it was done…but my artist brain didn’t let me stop there. It lights up - I just used a flashlight/headlamp for this so I could angle the light and get the best shadows. The puppet stage is in the bumped out part of the shell. It’s all cardboard cutouts and hot glue. In my longer video I have the snail puppet pour a cup of tea, read in the rocking chair, climb the stairs and climb into bed. I’d love to have sound effects lol, but I am not technologically savvy enough (it hurts my brain to make videos). The outfit is a sheer dress for snail slime (; and a fleshy colored long vest with a ruffled edge, I sew so that’s another tutorial lol, I made up the patterns. The wiggly eye stalks headband is from a Spirit Halloween alien costume, painted to match. I’ll try to take some pictures of the snail puppets from the inside and post that tomorrow 😁 Happy crafting! 🧚‍♂️🐌Karen’s Kontraptions 🐌🧚‍♂️

We’ve moved our Toronto location to a new space that will have a store front 💚💫✔️ coming soon in March ! The new location is a welcoming space and the best part is that we recycled ♻️ 100% of the wood, metal and other building materials from our previous space. Not only is being 🍃sustainable 🍃good for the planet but it’s great on budget 💸- constructing this shopping area cost $200 and most of that was the tool renal fee. $27 went towards buying flour and paper to wheat paste the walls. As a tattooer owned, small business we just wanna shout out all the tattoo artists out there managing shops, drawing flash and doing the million other invisible jobs that creatives undertake to promote thier business on the daily. When you walk into a shop and see someone’s art collection beautifully curated or well maintained plants - that took effort ! We see you. We hope you’ll come through and check out our new space.
