Over the past few weeks, she has also been going viral for her halo style hair, with bleached rings that stand out on the ice and carry a specific meaning to her, turning a personal detail into part of the story people remember. Her win hits even harder because of the path it took to get here. She retired at 16 after being a prodigy with no real autonomy, told what to eat, wear, skate to, and how to train, living alone at the Olympic Training Center and feeling miserable. She walked away, lived a real life, traveled, went to college, and rebuilt her identity. In 2024 she came back by choice, on her own terms, with a team that listened and a process that felt collaborative.
