I most certainly did not write like I was running out of time… How many words do you think you could write in 12 hours? If I’m being honest with myself I definitely could have done better with this challenge, but after a bit of a writing slump I’m just happy to get something on the page again. One day after this challenge I can say I feel more inspired to write then I have in a long while. On the bright side my previous post to write 1 word per every 5 views was fulfilled as it got around 16k views and I wrote more than 3.2k. The hack that helped me CRUSH my writing goals… Is a lot easier than you think. ☺️ Raise your hand if you’re a writer that procrastinates *actual* writing and proceeds to feel guilty for not writing (but not guilty enough to ACTUALLY do it). Yeah, guilty as charged. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Until I shifted my perspective a bit. If you’re new here, I’m EG and I wrote two novel-length manuscripts before ever stepping foot in a fiction class—and now I’m working on my fifth and am an Assistant Editor at the South Carolina Review. 📝 I don’t say this to brag but to prove that all you need to finish that draft is a little bit of time. And spite. We celebrate stubbornness on this page—and that’s actually how I wrote so much last month. 🤭 All I did was get BUSIER. I graduated (🎉🎉) and went directly to a summer internship that’s more of an 8-6 and, well, haven’t had much time for writing since. There’s always a bit of frustration that one of my passions can’t carve out a living as much as the other. So I set up a routine—forty-five minutes early to work each day for writing time—and I stuck to it. Made it become a habit and forgot about it. Until I checked that little spreadsheet yesterday and felt my jaw DROP to the floor. 😅 It’s all in the caring, I think. Putting that writing goal out of my mind for all but a fraction of my day allowed it to grow without the worry. I’m not saying STOP thinking about it, but if you’re an anxious writer like me, easing up a bit may be just what you need. ✅ And if this does sound like you, let’s be friends!
