EWMATTER OF TRUST: Bahamas Nurses Union President Muriel Lightbourne says nurses remain skeptical of “hollow” payment promises by Public Hospital Authority officials who asserted that outstanding overtime pay has been approved and is being processed.
It comes as an ongoing manpower crisis is crippling operations at the Princess Margaret Hospital. The sick-out was first reported on Thursday morning, leaving several critical departments understaffed.
The sick-out has sparked widespread outrage from residents who say the country’s health workers have been stranded without a lifeline.
Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville suggested that there was a breakdown in communication after raising questions on why the torment was not notified earlier about the fund exhaustion.
