Some people don’t disappear from your life. They just never fully arrive. Two lines can move closer and closer forever and still never touch. They can share space. Direction. Momentum. Even the illusion of destiny. But if their angles are slightly off, no amount of closeness creates an intersection. Distance isn’t the deciding factor. Direction is. That metaphor stays with people who think deeply about connection. You can live in the same city as someone. Pass through the same years. Feel something unmistakable. And still never meet them in the way that matters. Not because anyone failed. Not because it wasn’t real. But because timing, fear, loyalty, growth, or circumstance shifted the trajectory just enough. “Maybe in another life” isn’t resignation. It’s accuracy. Some connections only exist under different conditions. Change one variable and the equation works. Keep it as it is and there is no solution. The dots are potential. The lines are choices. Once a direction is set, changing it costs more than most people admit. So when two people almost meet, or meet briefly and never return to each other, it doesn’t mean the connection was imaginary.
