Day 1 -Monoprint I’m so excited to be taking part in #the100dayproject again, I think this is my fifth year now! 🥰 This year I’m bringing it directly into my classroom and linking it to my role as a textiles teacher. I’ve created 100 prompts for #100daysoftextiletechniques, covering a wide range of practical processes, creative experimentation, and skill-building ideas perfect for secondary school textiles. My plan? ➡️Complete one prompt every day before I leave work/the studio (weekends) ➡️ Build a collection of finished sample books ➡️Create high-quality textile technique resources to inspire my students I'm hoping this will be about consistent creativity, professional development for technology/ art and design teachers, and building a bank of practical textile samples that students can see, touch, and learn from. If you’re a textile teacher, art teacher, design/sewing educator, or creative practitioner, I’d LOVE for you to join in. I’m really excited to start Book 2 (Days 21–40): Hand Stitch & Embellishment I’m honestly amazed I’ve managed to keep up with this challenge! Planning the 100 textile technique prompts in advance has helped, but I’ve also stayed flexible and adapted ideas along the way. The best part is these books will become classroom resources for my textiles lessons, and I can work on them after school before heading home. I don’t use this technique enough in the classroom… but I really should! The results can be so striking, and it’s brilliant for teaching composition, and printmaking processes in KS3, KS4 and KS5 textiles. It’s quick, experimental, and perfect for developing layering, texture and colour blending skills in KS3 and KS4 textiles. I’m only on Day 2 of #The100DayProject and I’m already really enjoying the challenge. My original plan was to film full textile process videos for every prompt… but after a full day of teaching, I’ve realised that might not be sustainable 😅 That’s the beauty of this challenge, you can adapt it to suit your workload, your class/work room, and your creative energy. I’ve already tweaked my prompt list (twice! 🤣) and I know it will continue to evolve. My goal isn’t perfection, it’s consistent creativity and building a bank of practical textile technique resources for my students. I’m so excited that so many textiles teachers and art educators want to join in. Sadly I can’t rely on natural sunlight in the classroom, so I’ve used a nail lamp instead, a great alternative for developing cyanotype prints indoors. Cyanotype is a fantastic way to explore surface design, photographic print processes, and experimental textile techniques with students.
