We’re boosting our Thames Environment Fund from £50,000 to £175,000 for 2026 📣 A major step up in support for community-led projects protecting and improving the river! Over the past five years, our fund has backed 26 projects with £180,000, including £50,000 for six brilliant initiatives last year. Now, we’re going even further with a 250% increase in available funding across three new categories: ▪️Environmental Improvement Programme – £100,000 Supporting strategic, transformational projects that make a big impact on the tidal Thames. ▪️Local Environment Champions – £50,000 Empowering community groups working hard to improve their local environments. ▪️Tidal Tributaries Stewardship Fund – £25,000 Helping groups dedicated to caring for the Thames’ vital tributaries. Meet the ‘River Litter Detectives’ 🔍 - the @Thames21 initiative training local residents to track #riverpollution by recording waste found on the foreshore between Hammersmith and the Isle of Dogs. It comes as the charity recently launched their ‘Citizen Science Dashboard’ which brings together more than 8,000 water-quality samples and 2,000 riverfly surveys - making it one of the most complete #citizenscience tools in the UK.

Marking World Water Day 💧 Yesterday we pulled on our waders and headed up Figgate Burn with an amazing group of folk from @portyenergy , @edinburghshoreline the Forth2o & local litter picking legend @craigadrianlaird (our amazing guide for the day!). What we found was pretty eye-opening. Even knowing that much of the litter on our beaches comes from inland waterways in more populated areas, it was still shocking to see how much waste had built up in such small stretches (from a seemingly clean looking burn). From vapes and scooters to rubbish dating back decades, escaping eroding embankments with each high waterfall. We also looked at the Combined sewage outlets along the burn, another reminder that sewage pollution is a real and ongoing issue here in Scotland. It was a brilliant, informative day full of collaboration, conversation, and action, as well as learning more about how important these areas are for nature and wildlife (and us humans!) and why we must be doing more to protect them! #WorldWaterDay #LitterPicking #CommunityAction #ProtectOurWaters PlasticPollutio
