When you catch yourself eating in repetitive, sensory-driven ways, it’s not just about hunger — it’s about regulation, focus, and soothing your nervous system. ❤️‍🩹 For people with ADHD, food can become a subtle tool for stimming. These aren’t “bad habits” — they’re ways the brain seeks comfort and balance. Here are 5 things ADHDers often think are just normal interactions with food — but are actually signs of stimming: 1️⃣ Chewing ice or crunchy snacks repeatedly 👉 It’s not just preference — the texture and sound regulate sensory input. 2️⃣ Snacking without hunger 👉 It’s less about appetite, more about grounding or self-soothing. 3️⃣ Playing with food textures (squishing, mixing, licking) 👉 This is sensory exploration, not immaturity. 4️⃣ Eating the same food over and over 👉 Familiar textures and tastes provide comfort and predictability. 5️⃣ Sucking or chewing on straws, bottle caps, or utensils 👉 A stim disguised as “just something you do” to focus or calm down. ❤️‍🩹 My Final Thought: These habits aren’t flaws.
