I started my career as a Software Engineer at Microsoft, working on a PaaS product on Azure. Solid engineering work, but I always knew I wanted to move closer to AI. When I transitioned into working on an AI-agent based product in Copilot Studio, it wasn’t overnight or accidental. I went back to the basics! Revised Python and ML fundamentals… then steadily built depth in GenAI: prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, vector stores, and hands-on integrations with different LLMs. I explored agent frameworks like LangChain and Semantic Kernel, and experimented with SmolAgents, CrewAI, and Bot Framework to understand different agent architectures and patterns. Alongside this, I built small real-world projects like chatbots, retrieval systems, and automations… to see how these systems actually behave beyond demos. I also focused on production-ready thinking: logging, monitoring, prompt versioning, and Responsible AI, because agents don’t live in notebooks… they run in real systems. What made the transition effective wasn’t starting from scratch, but mapping my SWE experience to AI impact… using agents to automate workflows, improve search, reduce manual effort, and scale decision-making. This isn’t a story about cracking interviews or having a PhD in AI. It’s about being consistent, practical, and curious while already being a software engineer. ⬇️ 👉In my first year of BTech, I was obsessed with one thing: building websites. I jumped straight into frontend and started creating e-commerce projects. I was excited… but things didn’t go exactly as planned. I didn’t touch backend, and I felt like I was missing something. In my second year, I started watching roadmap videos on YouTube. Almost every creator said the same thing: “Everyone should start with web development.” That confused me. Because deep down, I didn’t just want to be a web developer. I wanted to become an AI engineer. And I kept wondering “how is web development going to help me build AI systems?” But after building a few projects, something clicked. I realized web development isn’t separate from AI. It’s the bridge. You can build the smartest AI model in the world, but without a clean interface, without integration, without a way for people to use it… it stays invisible. That’s when I decided to combine both worlds. Web Development + AI Systems. Instead of choosing one, I chose to integrate AI into websites, solve real problems, and then gradually move deeper into building models. And that changed everything. If you’re confused between Web Dev, AI, or any other path maybe you don’t have to choose. Maybe you just have to connect the dots.
