Ad | ASHP - that’s short for Air Source Heat Pump. Since posting about our high electricity bills during our first winter, I’ve been asked a lot of questions about our ASHP set up. I’ve been meaning to create a reel to answer all those questions and @energygovuk want to let people know about the £7,500 government grant for heat pump installations, which prompted me to finally get around to doing it. So I hope this Q&A reel is helpful 😊
We always planned to install one in our 50’s house as, the way the world is going, we wanted to eliminate our reliance on gas. We made use of the government grant at the time, which massively reduced the cost. The full price of installing ours was about £12k, before the grant was applied.
We love having the ASHP as it feels so good to have future-proofed our home and no longer rely on gas. Our bills were high in the first winter, but now that we understand that it’s more efficient to keep the house at a constantly warm ambient temperature, rather than whacking the heating up and down, our bills have settled down. We’re also on a smart tariff, which means we get very cheap electricity overnight, so we always set our dishwashers off and charge our car at night. The solar panels also really help to reduce costs in the summer.
Check out the Boiler Upgrade Scheme if you are thinking about installing a heat pump and starting your own energy efficient journey. I’ve put a link in my Stories and I’ll put up a Q&A box there in case you have any other questions.
