MYGrowing up in the Texas hill country I thought I had forever to visit these places since they were less than an hours drive. Well 10 years has come and gone of me saying ‘maybe next year’ and now these places no longer exist.
I fear that AI and data centers will continue to destroy the earth and soon more states will suffer the same fate that Texas is facing.

SCtheres a plethora of reasons why AI is awful. so so many. but something that is particularly hurtful to me and many others is its impact on the cosplay community.
not that the cosplay community is more important than our literal planet, but it touches my heart so much, and i want to speak about it! cosplay has been a huge part of my life for over a decade. over half of my life. cosplay as a whole has been around since the 70s/80s, possibly even earlier- and over time the community and culture has grown and blossomed and has become HUGE!
but im terrified, honestly. im terrified at the rate its going, that its just deteriorating and soon there'll be nothing left. im now constantly seeing AI "cosplays" wherever i look. all over social media, AI generated merch being sold at our events, AI generating promo and backdrops at said events, even AI generated media that people are cosplaying from?
people using AI to edit photos or videos, make up parts of their cosplay, or again, literally creating entire "cosplays" with ai. this might not be a big deal to alot of people, but i cant help but think about how this is literally.. the exact opposite of what cosplay is at its core. people expressing themselves and having fun creating and acting as characters they know and love, making friends through the scene, all of it is so insanely anti ai in itself that I cant believe its so normalised now to put a prompt into chatgpt and ask it to create a cosplay for you right there and then. not only killing our community and what it stands for, but our whole earth in the process.
boycott ai. support real cosplayers. never stop cosplaying yourself, if you do. experiment with new techniques, try making your own costumes and props if you dont already, learn photo and video editing as a hobby to go alongside cosplay, etc etc etc.
lets keep our hobby alive, and NOT let ai take over our scenes!!!!!!
