APApollo 14 was the eighth manned mission in the United States' Apollo program. It was launched on January 31, 1971, and the spacecraft successfully landed on the lunar surface on February 5, 1971.
Astronauts Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell and Stuart Roosa were the crew of the mission. Shepard and Mitchell spent nearly nine hours on the lunar surface performing experiments, collecting samples, and taking photographs, while Roosa orbited the Moon. The mission was considered a success and marked the return of the U.S. to the lunar surface after the failures of Apollo 13.
