KIThese common (extremely common) mistakes in athlete's running form can cause pain, especially calf pain, and can even cause injury if it goes long enough without being addressed!
🔹Overstriding when running, which involves landing with the foot too far in front of the body, can cause calf pain due to increased stress on the calf muscles as they work to decelerate the forward motion of the body. This inefficient stride not only places excessive load on the calves but also disrupts the natural biomechanics of the lower limbs, leading to heightened tension and potential overuse injuries in the calf muscles.
🔹Skipping warm-up or cool-down exercises when running can lead to calf pain because a proper warm-up helps increase blood flow to the muscles, preparing them for the increased demand during exercise. Additionally, cooling down allows for a gradual decrease in heart rate and helps prevent the muscles from tightening up, reducing the risk of post-run calf soreness and stiffness.
🔹Deviations in your gait while running can cause calf pain because improper biomechanics may lead to overuse or strain on the calf muscles, resulting in fatigue and discomfort. Additionally, irregularities in gait can disrupt the natural shock absorption and distribution of forces, placing excessive stress on the calves and increasing the risk of injury.
