The Breakdown: 🔸 Cup A (The Conscious Cup): • Karak Chai + 1 Tsp Sugar. • ~80 - 100 Calories. (A perfect little pick-me-up). 🔸 Cup B (The “Habit” Cup): • Karak Chai + 2 Tsp Sugar + 6 Biscuits. • ~300+ Calories. (The same calories as a small chicken sandwich). The Lesson: I’m not saying you can never have the biscuits. Dip them. Enjoy them. But if you do this day, at least adjust your total intake accordingly. As fun as uni is, it can get quite overwhelming at times trying to balance lots of different commitments! So with that being said, I thought I’d share some tips on how to balance/juggle lots of different things a bit better: Time-block your week – Every Sunday I spend 10 mins planning out my week. I put in all the fixed stuff first (lectures, gym, seeing friends), then fit uni work around that. Having it all mapped out can help stop with feeling overwhelmed because you can get a clear view of exactly what needs to get done + also fun plans too so you have things to look forward to! I also put deadlines etc. into my calendars so I can plan out when in the week I’ll need to focus on specific essays/assignments etc. Set a hard stop time – I don’t work past 8pm (usually 5/6pm if I can) unless it’s exam season or a deadline. Having that boundary means I actually get stuff done during the day instead of thinking “I’ll do it later” + honestly does help me be more productive when I’m working. Plus I sleep better and have energy the next day. Prioritise what actually matters – You can’t do everything and that’s okay. Some weeks I skip society events to focus on an assignment. Some weeks I do less gym sessions because I need to see friends. Figure out what matters most that week (and it will be different week on week, e.g. one week you may have an assignment due but others you can prioritise a fun social life more etc.) and let other things slide. Protect your downtime –If you plan to take an evening off, actually take it off. Don’t sit there scrolling feeling guilty about not working. That’s not rest, that’s just wasting time while stressed. Move your body regularly – Even just walks between lectures or a quick gym session makes such a difference to my energy and mood. It has been endorsed by diet after diet - that to see results you have to stick to the strict rules with no end in sight. 🥑🍠 This approach often fails because it doesn’t create a sustainable, balanced lifestyle. And, it often creates a ‘yo-yo’ effect where you diet harder and cheat harder. 🍩🥐 This is where the 80/20 rule comes into play. 80% of your diet should be primarily “whole food” based (lean proteins, vegetables, complex carbs, healthy fats). The other 20% can be ‘treat’ foods you enjoy in moderation. 😋 The key to dieting is to find something that works best for you and your lifestyle. The simple habits my mom has followed since her 20s to age gracefully. Low to no-cost habits that allow her products to work much more efficiently. 1. Get enough sleep. Ideally around 8 hours within your circadian rhythm window (in other words… not getting 8 hours starting at like 1 AM). 2. Balanced diet. Enjoy the foods that are good for your soul too. This creates a healthy relationship with food: no strict restrictions, just balance that leads to long-term happiness and a healthier gut and lifestyle. 3. Warm + cold compress. She does a warm towel compress about 3x a week in the morning and a daily cold towel compress (or an ice water splash) every night. 4. Masks. DIY masks are great and store-bought ones are convenient too (though they can get costly if used often). She usually does this on the days she washes her hair, about 3x a week. 5. Retinoid. This one is newer (not since her 20s), but she’s been using it for over a decade now, specifically tretinoin 0.05%, which requires a prescription. Thankfully it’s not too expensive since insurance covers it. Start with gentler versions though like retinol and retinal (over the counter) as it takes time to get used to tretinoin.
