UNBatman Beyond (aka Batman of the Future) is still an underrated gem. It almost didn’t exist as “Batman” at all.
WB originally pushed Bruce Timm and Paul Dini to make a teen Batman show purely to chase youth ratings, which the creators hated. Instead they deliberately flipped it by making Bruce old, broken, and retired, and turning Terry McGinnis (the new Batman) into a working-class kid with anger issues, not a sidekick clone.
The black suit with red bat still looks nuts. It was designed to animate faster and cheaper than the classic grey and blue suit, which accidentally gave the show its sleek cyberpunk identity. Even Kevin Conroy has said voicing a bitter, regret-filled Bruce Wayne in Beyond was emotionally harder than playing prime Batman, because the character constantly confronts the cost of being Batman rather than the glory.
