REWhen you or someone you love is in the midst of a crisis, it might feel like it will last forever, but research shows that these moments can be incredibly short sometimes lasting only minutes.
As Dr. Sara Kohlbeck explains, our goal as allies is to help you or your loved one stay safe through those critical minutes. This involves "limiting access to lethal means," which is a research-based way to say we should make your environment as physically safe as possible. This can include locking up firearms or medications and removing alcohol, which can often act like "pouring gasoline on a fire" during a difficult time.
By focusing on immediate safety, we can help each other get through the most intense parts of a struggle. If you or someone you care about is in a crisis, help is available. You can call or text 988 or text HOME to 741741 to speak with someone who cares. Remember to take a break from scrolling if you need a moment for your own wellbeing.
