É cientificamente comprovado que a ciência ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), ou Análise aplicada do comportamento, é a melhor abordagem a ser trabalhada junto aos pequenos para a recuperação de atrasos no desenvolvimento infantil. E a intervenção ABA é ainda mais benéfica quando aplicada por meio de uma abordagem naturalista, em que a criança aprende de uma forma natural e aplicada à sua realidade, através de brincadeiras e jogos. Mas nós sabemos que a terapia limitada às clínicas é só uma parte do tratamento. Pais e cuidadores também devem saber como aplicar ABA e potencializar ainda mais as intervenções! A recent investigation by The Wall Street Journal is raising big questions about the autism therapy industry. Medicaid spending on autism therapy has surged to $2.2B a year, with some clinics billing hundreds of thousands per child annually. Fraud should absolutely be investigated. But the bigger issue may be how autism services are structured. For years, many programs have relied on 20–40 hours/week of intensive Applied Behavior Analysis, based largely on early research by Ole Ivar Lovaas. But those original interventions included much more than technician-delivered ABA—they involved speech therapy, OT, school, and community learning. And the truth is: not every child needs the same model or intensity. Some kids benefit greatly from ABA. Others do better with targeted supports and parent-mediated strategies. If we want autism services that truly work, we need to focus less on maximizing hours and more on individualized care and supporting families. Because children spend far more time with their parents and communities than with therapists. 💬 Parents, therapists, and autistic adults— What therapy models have you experienced? A partir de uma análise inicial do comportamento apresentado pela criança são utilizadas técnicas de interação, brincadeiras e estimulação com o objetivo de modificar ou incorporar novos comportamentos ao repertório. E a abordagem pode ocorrer de maneira mais estruturada ou a partir de técnicas naturalistas, dependendo do contexto apresentado, como eu explico melhor no vídeo de hoje!
