Detectives described Hinton as “agitated” when he left family members present said they had concerns about him getting behind the wheel. He drove to Martin Luther King Drive, pulled into the center median, stopped, then accelerated directly across oncoming traffic into Deputy Larry Henderson, a 33-year veteran who was wearing a fluorescent vest and directing traffic for a University of Cincinnati graduation ceremony. Witnesses said there were no skid marks. Henderson was launched several feet through the air and died at hospital that afternoon. The shooting of Ryan was later ruled justified; the officer involved was not charged.
