PRLearning about cars for beginners: Part 19, Brakes
Brakes are the most important safety system in your car.
They work by using friction to slow you down.
Here’s how: when you press the pedal, pressurized brake fluid travels through the brake lines to the caliper.
The caliper squeezes the brake pads against a spinning disc called the rotor.
That squeezing action creates friction, and since the rotor spins with your wheels, the friction slows your car down.
Over time, those pads and discs wear out.
That’s why you’ll hear squealing or feel your car take longer to stop.
And by the way, not every car uses disc brakes, some have drum brakes instead.
If you want to know the difference, comment ‘BRAKE’ and we’ll make a video about it.
