PAHow to Export Big Machinery & Project Cargo from India (Bulk Cargo on Ships) 🚢🇮🇳
As an exporter, you can ship big machinery, heavy vehicles, buses, cranes, generators, helicopters (as cargo), and oversized equipment in bulk using cargo ships. This type of shipment is called Project Cargo / Breakbulk / Ro-Ro, depending on the cargo and vessel type.
✅ Step 1: Decide the shipping method
• Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off): Vehicles and equipment that can move on wheels.
• Breakbulk / Heavy Lift: Oversized machines loaded using cranes.
• Flat Rack / Open Top Container: When container support is required.
✅ Step 2: Packaging & securing
For heavy cargo, packaging is not just “covering”—it’s safety.
• Use wooden skids, pallets, steel frames
• Do rust protection, waterproof covering, and proper labeling
• Do lashing and blocking to prevent movement during sea waves
• Follow ISPM-15 rules for wooden packing
✅ Step 3: Documents & compliance
Keep these ready:
• Proforma Invoice, Commercial Invoice, Packing List
• HS Code, Insurance, Test certificates (if needed)
• Shipping Bill filing through CHA
• Contract terms (Incoterms like FOB/CIF)
✅ Step 4: Customs & port operations
• Pre-check dimensions, weight, lifting points
• Book vessel space early (project cargo needs planning)
• Arrange transport to port, cranes, and loading supervision
• After customs clearance, cargo is loaded and shipped
Project cargo export is high value—proper planning, documentation, and safe loading are the keys.
