Honored to be part of Mayor Wilson’s new initiative to build 4,000 tiny homes across Seattle. Homelessness is a major issue in our city, and it’s imperative we build more shelter capacity for all our residents. Today, we worked with The Hope Factory, an organization dedicated to building transitional homes for those in need. I couldn’t be more proud to have them operating here in District 1, and addressing this crisis with the urgency it needs. I look forward to being a part of this project as it progresses. Today was something special. Impact West Seattle members swapped grantmaker mode for work gloves and safety goggles and joined Sound Foundations NW in building their 726th tiny home. This home will soon provide shelter, stability, and community for someone currently experiencing homelessness. We also had the honor of naming the home, and we chose Zenith, a small word with big hope, in support of this home’s new inhabitant reaching ever higher heights. Huge thanks to our Impact West Seattle members for not only funding this work, but showing up ready to swing a hammer. And to Steve, Liz, Andrew, and all the volunteer Team Leaders at Sound Foundations Northwest, thank you for your patience and guidance today. Keller’s Sohrab Fadaeian, P.Eng., from our GTA & Southern Ontario office, recently supported Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin @habitatgta by completing a foundation plan for one of their Tiny Homes. Built by students at @glenforestss, this energy-efficient, purpose-built home is part of Habitat for Humanity’s high-school build program - an initiative that gives students hands-on experience constructing real, livable homes alongside industry professionals. Throughout the build, Sohrab completed inspections at the school, including: 🔹 Structural inspection for framing and plumbing rough-in 🔹 Inspection for insulation and vapour barrier To prepare the home for its public showcase, Sohrab also designed and stamped a temporary foundation and completed the final inspection and sign-off for the @citymississauga. Now on display at Celebration Square (300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga), this Tiny Home highlights how collaboration between students, educators, municipalities, and industry professionals can create meaningful solutions for affordable housing. We’re proud to have played a small part in a project that supports both youth learning and accessible housing in our communities. After more than 20 years in and out of homelessness, Jackie finally has a place to call home. With support from @NewNarrativePDX and a rent assistance voucher, she found the stability she needed to rebuild her health and strengthen her connections with friends and family. Today, Jackie and her beloved dog are thriving in their Forest Grove apartment. She knows her neighbors and feels a sense of belonging she once thought was out of reach. Jackie pays her rent with help from a Regional Long-Term Rent Assistance (RLRA) voucher, which is funded through the Metro supportive housing services measure. In Washington County, more than 1,900 households have been housed with RLRA vouchers since 2020.
