A common mistake is coming up to high, increasing drag, and wasting energy that could be spent moving forward. Causes are many but one in particularly in your line of pull. Like all the strokes, you want to push water back to move your body forward. Wherever you push water, it pushes back. Swimmers lacking a good high elbow catch compensate by pushing water down, driving their body up. Drills and exercises that improve your mobility to get into an early vertical forearm, and the straight to pull water with your arms out long, get help you improve body position and propulsion. #butterflystroke #swimming #swimmingtechnique

Press your chest slightly down, then let the wave travel through your core, hips, and legs. Keep it smooth and continuous no stiffness. 2️⃣ Arm Entry & Powerful Pull Hands enter shoulder width apart, then catch the water with high elbows. Pull in a strong, controlled motion (keyhole shape) using your back and core, not just your arms. 3️⃣ Dolphin Kick (Two Beats) Keep your legs together and kick from the hips. Do two kicks per cycle: – First kick supports the pull – Second kick drives you forwardFast, tight, and controlled is the goal. 4️⃣ Breathing TechniqueLift your head forward naturally during the pull. Want to improve your underwater dolphin kick and build real endurance at the same time? Stay until the end — I’ll share a simple training set you can use right away. If you want a better dolphin kick, it can’t come only from the legs. The power comes from a big, relaxed movement that uses the entire body. The wave should start in the chest, travel through the hips, and finish at the feet. When the movement is too short or forced, speed disappears and fatigue shows up fast. Side dolphin is one of the best ways to learn this. On your side, the body can push water in both directions, not just up and down. That lateral motion helps you feel pressure on both sides of the body, something most swimmers don’t fully experience when kicking only on their back or stomach. It naturally improves coordination, balance, and control of the body wave. Because it keeps the core working nonstop, side dolphin is also an excellent endurance tool. It teaches you to stay long, connected, and efficient even as you get tired — exactly what you need for strong underwater work in butterfly. Here’s a coach-style set you can try: - 2 rounds 4×50 side dolphin kick at the surface (one arm up, one arm by the side) — with fins @ 1:10 4×15 side dolphin kick underwater — with fins @ :50 2×50 side dolphin kick at the surface ( one arm up, one arm by the side) — no fins @ 1:10 2×15 fast dolphin kick on back or stomach — no fins @ :45 100 easy swim each round If this helped you, give it a like and send it to a friend who needs better underwater work.
