Spring is finally here 🌸 and we’re celebrating on the trails! We explored the Cascade Falls Trail in Patapsco Valley State Park with @blackgirlshike_ — following the blue trail markers for about 3.5 miles along a peaceful stream, spotting wildlife like a red-headed woodpecker, and taking time to slow down and connect with nature (yes, even stopping to feel the soft moss 🌿). The hike ends with a beautiful waterfall view that makes the journey totally worth it 💧✨ ✨ Want to experience it with us? Join us TOMORROW — Saturday 3/21 at 1PM for this hike! Elliott state park Old Horse Trail loop, easy, 3 miles AllTrails reviews state this can be very overgrown in the summer months. I did this in early spring and thought it was amazing! Combine with Parker Dam State Park. ‼️Always remember to Leave No Trace while exploring these incredible public lands. Are you looking for some great hikes in Pennsylvania? I’ve got you covered. 😉 Check out these 5 top hikes in PA: 1. Thousand Steps Trail, Huntingdon County—This is part of the 85 mile Standing Stone Trail, SGL 112. Park in the lot off Rte 22 near Mt. Union. 3 mile out and back (to include 2 overlooks, ledge quarry, and dinkey shed), difficult, 843 ft elevation gain 2. Minister Creek Trail, Allegheny National Forest, 6.1 mi loop, moderate, 1,056 ft elevation gain 3. Falls Trail, Ricketts Glen State Park, 6.9 mi, moderate, full loop, park in lot of Rte 118. Park in Lake Rose lot for shorter 4.1 mi loop. ***This has a lot of narrow stairs and is seasonal so be sure to check to make sure it is open for the season. As of 3/21/26 only the Lower portion of the trail, which has access to 3 waterfalls, is open. For the full experience, you’ll need to wait several weeks for the ice to melt. 4. Turkey Path, Leonard Harrison State Park, 2.1 mi out and back, moderate, 685 elevation gain ***Use caution: there are steep ledges on this trail 5. Pulpit Rock and Pinnacle Loop, Appalachian Trail. 9.3 mi loop, moderate, 1259 elevation gain. There are alternate routes to shorten the hike. Have you visited Trough Creek State Park near Raystown Lake? There are 12 miles of trails in the park. I did the 5 Sites Loop which can be found in the @AllTrails app to connect several trails and see all the highlights of the park. Total mileage: 7 miles, moderate Trail is 🐶 dog-friendly. Some sections with ledges may not be super kid-friendly. But you can check out the suspension bridge, waterfall, and balanced rock on a shorter hike to avoid the ledges. Warning: I did see a bear cub 🐻 on the Moss Hanne Trail. Bear sightings are pretty common at this park. This Friday, March 20th is the first day of spring! Spring can be an amazing time to get out and hike in Maryland. Here is one you’re going to want to check out… ⛰️Planning your Weverton Cliffs hike ⛰️ Length: 1.9 mi Elevation gain: 567 ft 📍Appalachian National Scenic Trail, Knoxville, MD 21758 or you can put Weverton Cliffs in your GPS and it should take you to the parking lot. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime of the year! From the parking lot, don’t head straight into the forest as that’s not the correct trail; instead walk towards the road, turn right, and walk to the end of the road to the stop sign. Follow white lines on poles or trees for help. The trail starts by going up a bunch of narrow stone steps. This trail is very rocky and steep. 🌳 The trail is well maintained and marked. Follow white lines to stay in the correct path. 🥾Going back down is easier as it’s pretty much all downhill. Going up is strenuous. Please wear good hiking boots or a shoe with good traction, trail and the top is covered in rocks. 💰 FREE 🚽 No bathrooms available 💦Views of the Potomac River ‼️leave no trace!! #maryland #wevertoncliffs #hikenearme

In 2023, I set a goal to hike in all 124 Pennsylvania state parks. 🌲 I didn’t really know what that experience would look like. I had just started hiking and enjoyed taking pictures, so I created an Instagram, set a goal, and started to document the journey. Many of my early hikes were short day trips, and I was blown away by how many beautiful parks were just a short drive from my house. How had I never taken the time to explore these incredible places? And they’re all free to enter! I’ve planned trips all over the state to keep checking parks off my list (I’m currently at 97!) and even bought a passport from @paparksandforests to track my progress and add to the fun. I’ve visited parks I’d never heard anyone talk about. Many of these places I probably would have just driven past, focusing only on the most popular spots. But this challenge has helped me appreciate the beauty in everything, not just the big destinations. Not a single park has left me disappointed. This journey has taught me to appreciate ALL the places around us. I highly recommend getting out and exploring your parks. Did you know there is a state park within 25 miles of most residents in PA?
