ALMazen al-Hamada: ‘They killed a lot of people in front of me’
.
Mazen al-Hamada was a Syrian activist who participated in the 2011 Arab Spring protests against Bashar al-Assad's regime. His antigovernment demonstrations led to a year and a half-long imprisonment and torture in Syria.
.
After years of asylum in the Netherlands, al-Hamada returned to Syria in February 2020 and was arrested by security forces at Damascus airport. On December 9, 2024, during the recent toppling of al-Assad, his body was found in Sednaya Prison.
