Would you do this one or are you waiting for the spring?
Chasing waterfalls is always fun… but when they are frozen it’s way cooler 🥶
This hike is less than a 1 hour drive from Seattle 🚗
📍Franklin Falls is an absolute MUST DO winter hike 🥾❄️
We recommend doing it in the winter for a few reasons...
The most obvious being that this waterfall is absolutely GORGEOUS when it freezes over 😍
It’s a beautiful trail with a lot to see in the winter ❄️
-Trail Info: It’s about 6 miles round trip (winter route) which can be a lot in the snow but it’s still on the easier side. It really is a great option for just about anyone. We saw quite a few families and a mix of people both young and old. The hike is also dog friendly as well 🧑🧑🧒 🐶
-Getting There: It’s only an hour drive from Seattle and the trailhead is right off of 1-90 so it’s super accessible even when there’s a lot of snow. We recommend parking in the West Lot of The Summit at Snoqualmie and starting the hike from there. This makes it a bit longer (6 miles total) than starting at the trailhead that’s used in the summer but it’s the best option 🚐
-Gear: Snowshoes seem like they would likely be overkill but we would definitely recommend some MicroSpikes. Be sure to dress warm and take some type of rain/snow gear. It gets significantly colder when you reach the falls and you’re likely to get sprayed with mist if you want to get up close to the falls 🧣🧤
